We keep top quality Light Sussex Bantams (8 hens & 1 cock bird).  These have free range of our 6 acres.

We would like to get some different breeds, inc cock birds, without getting cross breeds.  Some we are looking at are:
  • Silver Laced Wyandottes (LF)
  • Silver Laced Wyandottes  (Bantam)
  • Norfolk Grey (LF)
  • Buff Orpington (LF)
  • Buff Orpington (Bantam)
  • Other colour variations of the Sussex (Bantam)
We would be looking at one or maybe more (up to 4 of these breeds -  plus up to 3 colours of Sussex Bantam).
  1. Does anyone have any experience of this, good or bad?.......
  2. Would you get x-breeds from large fowls and bantams?
We would like to breed these in the future and keeping pure breds is very important to us....... also the cock birds not fighting..... They have a large shed to roost in at night (10x8ft), so this could be made into 2 or more separate houses for them...

These will all be kept as pets, for eggs and breeding.

Any help/suggestions and as much as possible very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Kate

Yes bantams will mate with large fowl and we have some very nice cross breeds to prove it.:dude: Thats why you will need to keep them apart if you want pure stock. Take your time and choose from only good healthy stock from a good breeder. Sorry we can not help with any of the breeds you mention.
