A MID Wales tourism business that relies on an eco-friendly sort of horse power has seen a run of bookings after being featured on television.

Stephen Rees-Jones, who runs Bywater Holiday Cruises on the Montgomery Canal, near Welshpool, began getting calls within hours of viewers seeing his horse-drawn narrow boat Sian on the ITV Central television series Waterworld last week.

The boat cruises the middle section of the Montgomery Canal which volunteers recently re-opened to navigation.

Siān carries a crew of three and is pulled by Buddy, a nine-year-old Clydesdale cross gelding.

"We are the only business in the UK offering two or three day holidays on a horse-drawn narrow boat, which makes our horse Buddy unique," said Mr Rees-Jones.

"We offer guests a totally unique and relaxing way to cruise the quiet waters of the beautiful Montgomery Canal.

“It is a totally eco-friendly holiday, as there are no diesel fumes from an engine, just pure horse power."

At night, passengers are accommodated ashore in small hotels or farm guest houses. The company also offers a range of short breaks and walking holidays.

Mr Rees-Jones is hoping to attract more group bookings this year, with the boat operating from April to October.
