Not sure whether it's a tradition or superstition, but this year I decided to do what my mother has done pretty-much all her life.
Just before midnight I put a tray just outside the front door. On it I had placed some sugar, tea, salt, some money, bread, matches, a bit of chocolate and some cat food. When our dark-haired daughter came home in the early hours she brought the tray in.
Apparently it's to ensure that you don't go short of those things in the coming year (and the first person through your front door is supposed to be dark).
Anyone else do anything superstitious? Or is it just me
