Hi colin
Where are you we are in norfolk no charge for the visit but you will be put to work!!
Lots of work turkeys chickens ducks veg fruit and 3 acres of rough land to be tamed. not to mention the chicken houses to be built and pens to be fenced. The pigs have all gone for meat but the pens need sorting. ( Have you gone off the idea already or are you up for a challenged? Accommodation is with us in a small untidy 2 bed semi with good food and a well deserved drink at the end of the day. We work full time and run a smallholding never bored dont go shopping and never watch tv to tired

Hi Wendy, many thanks for the offer, we are a bit tied up at the moment (daughter just got married), will post again in a while when things calm down a bit to see if the offer is still there.
Thanks again, Colin & Brenda

So you are not put off? Well there is hope for you but rest assured smallholding is hard work!!!! not the pretty picture in the mags .. you have to love all about the animals and poultry you keep to me its been like bringing up a family no one gives you a hand book you just learn as you go along solving each problem as they arrive even vets dont know it all. They are just learning about poultry because we smallholders are footing the bill to find out all about the ailments, and bothering to cure them . Having said all this I love it all, but I live it night, day, morning, noon and back to night meaning I never go anywhere else try getting a babysitter for 3 pigs 70 chickens 20 turkeys and 20 ducks and 2 cats there hard to find but I do now have a friend where we can smallholding swop a change is as good as a rest they say Like your tractor we have a fergie T20 that we use for mowing we love it . whats yours?.Last edited on 7 August 2008 12:30 am by wendy

Wow my tractor would love you It looks like you are going the right way about it and getting the equipment before the real work begins and you have no time to rebuild and only maintain as and when needed. This is my fergie with my old Dad and Mum when they came for a visit and were put to work!! they are only 83 and 84 Dad loves it and is great on the maintenance teaching me to respect these brilliant machines I just need to retire from work to get on with the small holding The fergie was rebuilt and had a brief apperance in "Kingdom" the tv progrme with Stephen Fry and we use it almost every day. At the moment for mowing towing wood sawing for the winter supply of wood and it is getting better every day as I learn to use it it has a mind of its own sometimes They are great to have around when it arrived I felt we had the best work mate ever, and yes even a woman can use it Attachment: PICT0044.JPG (Downloaded 16 times)

Hi Colin
We went on a smallholding course at the end of April this year at Bicton Agricultural College at East Budleigh in Devon. It was an excellent weekend and definately worth doing. Check out website Katrina is the ladies name.
We moved into our new abode at the end of June and the course as been invaluable. We now have four sheep, couple of pigs, couple of cows, ducks and hens and loving it.
Unfortunately do not advise quad bikes as my husband has had an accident and been in hospital with broken ribs and collar bone ouch!! So guess who's doing all the work??
Good Luck
