Hi Folks

Just wanted to say Hi and I'm looking foward to joining in the forums.

I don't have a smallholding yet but am actively looking for somewhere.  I live in the Lake District and have a small garden where my husband grows veggies and I am about to get 2 chickens (which is all we have room for) by the end of July. I'm really eggcited (sorry) and can hardly wait for them to arrive.  Any advice about keeping chickens or anything about setting up a smallholding gratefully received.  Our dream is eventually to keep some goats and Alpacas as well as growing vegetables etc.

bye for now

Hello from me

Chickens are great to have around and turkeys are even better!!!

Good luck with your search for a holding. We have a 6 acre holding but only 2 acres are used at the moment, looking forward to retirering so we can do the other 4 acres!!!!. Never a dull moment hear.

Hi kooljules

Welcome to the forums.

Have you decided yet what chickens you are going to get? You'll have to post some piccies of your new little family when you get them.

Any questions about anything - just ask away - you're in the right place :D

Hi kooljules

Welcome to the forums and the GANG!

Alpacas - lovely animals - I hear they are good for looking after chickens - keep the foxes at bay.

:D

Hi

Yes we are getting Lohman Browns, really becasue they are good egg layers and the farm that supplies the hen ark also supplies the chickens fully vaccinated and at the POL.

I'll post some piccies once they arrive.

We visited the Alpaca centre in our local area on Saturday, they have a small herd which you can get quite near to and watch, and they have a shop selling everything Alpaca such as sweaters, rugs, scarfs etc.

The Alpacas were lovely with a really cute baby to watch so well worth the visit. We are hoping to go on a day course which they run in how to look after Alpacas if you are thinking of starting up a herd.

Thanks for the welcome
