Hello everyone, discovered this site after my good friend RichyRich told me about you, and how he'd recommended me as a chook rearer!

Brian and I live in Lincolnshire, not far from Boston, on half an acre that's a bit like the tardis!!!  I grow much of my own veggies, we have a dog, cat and nearly 300 chickens.  I decided to giving rearing from day old a go to see if it will help the empty coffers a bit, but of course, just after we got the chicks, feed prices went through the roof and they are eating us out of house and home!!!

They are 20 weeks old now, and beginning to go to new homes, but I want them to hurry up as we want to get some day old meat chicks from a chap the other side of Boston.

Brian is a carpenter by trade, so he make all our sheds etc.  I am a secretary by trade, but got fed up with working in London after 25 years, so I am head cook bottle washer and chook rearer!!!

I make my own wine, bread, jams and chutneys etc, and have recently discovered the joy of homemade soup.

We are definitely getting into frugal living. I work for a few hours cleaning the local double glazing and conservatory place, so we have a good supply of old doors and windows, and we get all the old door and windows frames which we either cut up for the woodburner,or Brian cuts the long lengths down to make the structures of the sheds and things he builds.

I don't always get on the internet as much as I would like, but I hope to prove a worthwhile member!!!

Hello Grannieannie and welcome to the forums.

Chuffdies to see that you like cooking jams and bread... and especially making your own wine. Hopefully you'll add some yummy recipes to the FARMHOUSE RECIPES section when you have a mo....

Hope you enjoy the company!

If you have any queries at any time, please get in touch.
